Wimbledon predictions & betting tips

Actually, the forecast for Wimbledon 2021 is relatively clear. Because apart from the long-term injured Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic can hardly hold a candle to him on grass.

With Robert Bautista Agut, Kevin Anderson or John Isner, semi-finalists of the last few years are there, but far from their former form. And yet: Wimbledon has always been known for surprising half or even finalists. At least there could be surprises this time too.

Most of the time, these failed in the end because of the favorites Djokovic or Federer. So it will take a miracle to prevent the Serb from defending his title at Wimbledon in 2021. If Wimbledon was previously considered Roger Federer’s competition, the Serb has made the grass tournament his own. Often the two only met in the finals, so it comes as no surprise that they are among the top favorites. The Wimbledon bets also include the young savages, who are now getting closer and closer to the old guard.

Men’s Wimbledon outright winner tips and longshots

World number one Djokovic has an easier path since Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem are injured. But, things can always go wrong, so punters know that there is no rush to back the Serb with such small odds in a Grand Slam. Instead it is always worth to look for some each-way value on the opposite half of the table such as Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Roger Federer, and Marin Cilic.

The German Zverev youngster is still seeking his first major Open title as Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas and since big servers usually do well at the All England Club and at 6’6” Zverev is just that. Also 2nd seeded Medevedev has to prove his credentials, there are reasons to anticipate an upset and Marin Cilic looks a lively outsider. The Croatian is a grass-court expert might meet Medvedev in the third round, a stage that the Russian has never gone beyond at Wimbledon.

The former world number three has battled with injuries ever since but he ended a three-year title drought with victory on the grass of Stuttgart earlier this month, showing the fire is still burning inside.

Novak Djokovic: The defending champion

  • ATP world rankings: 1st
  • Best Wimbledon result: Winner 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019

The freshly crowned French Open winner will of course also travel to the Grand Slam in England as a top favorite. The last two editions went to the first in the world rankings – since 2014 he has only failed to come home as the winner twice. With a total of five titles, he is the third most successful Wimbledon player behind Pete Sampras (7) and Roger Federer (8) – William Renshaw also has 7 titles, but in the amateur era.

This year he has three titles so far, none of them on grass: Roland Garros, Australian Open and Belgrade. However, the 34-year-old rarely wins titles on grass and still trumps at Wimbledon. At Wimbledon 2021, Novak Djokovic can be expected again in top form.

Stefanos Tsitsipas: Will he get a revenche from Djokovic ?

  • ATP world rankings: 4th
  • Best Wimbledon result: 4th round 2018

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a good player, but definitely he is not considered as a lawn player. He’s never been on grass in a final, let alone won one. At Wimbledon, he only got past the first round once in three attempts. The fourth round of 2018 is his best result. He holds as many victories as defeats (3-3). Nevertheless, he is one of the bookmakers’ favorites, simply because he is playing a very good year in 2021. With Lyon and Monte Carlo he has already won two titles, with Roland Garros he only failed in the final.

To Djokovic, against whom he will certainly be out for revenge. In order to do that, however, the Greeks have to improve enormously. For the time being, a place among the last eight players will probably be the goal.

Roger Federer: One last hallelujah?

  • ATP world rankings: 8th
  • Best Wimbledon result: winners 2003-2007, 2009, 2021, 2017 (record)

The record winner on the holy lawn of Wimbledon is still Roger Federer. The old master always struggles with injuries, but he is often on hand at his favorite tournament. His last victory dates from 2017, in the last edition he only failed in the final.

Since his first participation in 1999 he has not made it into the final only nine times (!) Nevertheless, he has not yet been able to win against Novak Djokovic (0-3). So this time too he is a clear outsider. Will only play eight matches in 2021, five of which he won. Although he played well at the French Open, he broke off the tournament despite winning the quarter-finals.

The fitness for Wimbledon 2021 was more important, whether this step will pay off?

Daniil Medvedev: First title in the 3rd Grand Slam Final?

  • ATP world rankings: 2nd
  • best Wimbledon result: 3rd round 2018, 2019

The current number two in the world is, like Tsitsipas, still without a Grand Slam title. After all, he was able to win the 2020 ATP Finals. In his two finals, Rafael Nadal (US Open 2019) and Novak Djokovic (Australian Open 2021) failed once. Now he wants to win his first grass final and, if possible, win it.

In 2021 he was able to win Marseille, his only other final was the Australian Open. Apart from that, the Russian has 22 wins and seven defeats this year, so he’s not out of shape. For a possible title, however, a clear increase in performance compared to previous appearances at Wimbledon is required.

Alexander Zverev: Still seeking his first Grand Slam win

  • ATP world rankings: 6th
  • Best Wimbledon result: 4th round 2017

With Madrid and Acapulco, Sascha Zverev already has two titles in the bag, but he has not yet achieved the great success in the form of a Grand Slam. That should change at Wimbledon 2021. The German has never won a title on grass either, at Wimbledon he didn’t even make it into the top 16.

Nevertheless, 24-year-olds can always be expected, even if what applies to most of the other co-favorites also applies to him: In order to even get close to Djokovic, it takes an immense increase.

Women’s betting tips – Wimbledon outright winner best bet: Serena Williams

One of the greatest grass-court players of all time, the 39 years old Serena Williams showed with her recent matches that she’s still operating to a top level and is the clear favorite to win the tournament. The American after all lifted the Wimbledon trophy for seven times, while reaching the final another four times, including each of the last two tournaments.

Reigning champion Simona Halep and four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka are absent, but still Serena needs to prove herself against other competitors, such as Ashleigh Barty which are both drawn in the top-half of the draw table. This means there might be a surprise finalist from the bottom section. A possible candidate to upset the bookies and is one of our tennis picks is the talented Tunisian Ons Jabeur. She has improved her game greatly over the past few years and last season reached the Australian Open quarter-finals as well as the fourth round at the French Open.

Also Jabeur won one of Wimbledon’s warm-up events, the Birmingham Classic, by defeating Daria Kasatkina in the final.
