Can Leicester “wake up” and conquer for the first time in their history the FA Cup? Or is Chelsea to strong for the Foxes? Here is our Leicester – Chelsea tip.
Leicester City hosts Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at King Power Stadium. It is difficult to predict a favorite in this game at this point of the season, because on the one hand they shared the points in their two clashes this season and on the other hand they are almost at the top of the table in the Premier League. Here is our Leicester – Chelsea tip.
Of course, they can no longer become champions and the second place in the championship is difficult to reach, but they are currently in a qualification place for the Champions League. Leicester is 3rd and Chelsea 4th. However, the fact is that Leicester has never won the FA Cup and Chelsea won the Cup in 2018 for the last time. The Foxes have to be credited with the fact that in their last home game against Chelsea in the FA Cup, they had a draw (2-2) but this happened in 1997!
Leicester came back from the break very modestly. Only 1-1 against Watford and 0-0 against Brighton. Two teams that are located in the lower third of the Premier League table. So far the Foxes have faced “easy” opponents in the FA Cup. Wigan and Brentford, two second division teams, beat them 2-0 and 0-1. In the 5th round they met Birmingham City from the Championship winning just 1-0.
Brendan Rodgers vs Frank Lampard
Despite all this, the team under Brendan Rodgers showed a very convincing season performance so far. They are currently the third best team on the offensively and the second best defensively. They therefore scored 30 times in 16 games in Leicester and “allowed” only 15 goals in the defence. On the other side, they scored 29 times away and only conceded 14 goals. The Foxes are the fourth best team in the league both at home and away. They won nine games at their home and only had to “surrender” three times and also had seven draws.
Even though these facts indicate victory, coach Brendan Rodgers has never been able to beat Chelsea or their coach Frank Lampard. In 14 games against Chelsea, Rodgers only made eight draws and lost in six games. Against Lampard he has two draws.
The Blues from London came back strongly from the forced break. They won 2-1 against Aston Villa and 2-1 over Manchester City. They thwarted City’s title dreams and made Liverpool English champions. Chelsea have met Nottingham Forest and Hull City from the second division in the first rounds of the FA Cup. They won 2-0 and 1-2 against these two clubs. In the 5th round they faced Liverpool and won 2-0.
Chelsea has scored 31 goals in 15 away games and conceded 25. They scored 24 times in front of their home crowd and only took 16 hits. Chelsea currently is the sixth best home and third best away team. They won eight games both at home and away and had three draws. They surrendered five times at Stamford Bridge and four times on foreign soil. So we could hope for a balanced quarter-final, because their coach Frank Lampard has never won against Leicester or Rodgers. Two draws in two matches. Lampard also has an average success rate as a trainer of 1.68 PPS, while Rodgers is of 1.84 PPS.
Stats on the Leicester – Chelsea tip
- Leicester City have not lost to Chelsea inside 90 minutes since 2017 (W1, D5), and go into this FA Cup quarter-final after losing only one of their last six home games across all competitions – and that defeat was to Manchester City.
- Chelsea are flying high after four straight victories in all competitions -three with half-time leads- while they have established themselves as an attacking threat on the road by recording two goals in each of their last four competitive away trips.
- Five of the last six H2Hs (in all competitions) have produced two or fewer goals in 90 minutes, with a 0-0 half-time result in four.
- Leicester have taken the most corner kicks in seven of their last eight FA Cup fixtures.
- Chelsea’s last 11 FA Cup matches have all seen four or fewer total cards awarded (average 2.64 per game).
Leicester – Chelsea tip
We assume that regular time will end in a draw and that Leicester will have a slightly greater chance of winning. We therefore recommend a double chance tip 1 / X bet. Also we recommend “yes” for both teams to score. We would also bet on over 2.5 goals. The odds on a promotion bet from Leicester and Chelsea have been very similar. Bookies favor Chelsea, although we would rather bet on Leicester due to the Foxes’ season performance and greater motive.
Bet of the day
- Leicester – Chelsea: 1X Double Chance
- Leicester – Chelsea: Over 2.5 goals
- Leicester – Chelsea: Both teams to score
